fashion inspiration: Hahn Bin

Hahn Bin is a 23 year old violin prodigy playing now at Carnegie Hall. Not only is he an extremely gifted musician, he also has an amazing avant-garde style:

Part french clown, part punk, he has a look that is uniquely beautiful. His look, he say's, is as much a part of his art as his music. Today we find inspiration in his amazingly crafted appearance.

fashion inspiration: Just One of the Guys

A recent bout of the stomach flu reunited me with an old favorite; 1985's Just One of the Guys.

I hate it when you revisit a childhood favorite and it just doesn't live up to what you one thought it was. This was not the case with Just One of the Guys. The movie is hilarious. The clothing is awesome. Perfect eighties movie, complete with breast reveal in the climax. What more do you want?

So we'll do a couple looks. A "guy" look, a lady look, and another look from the flick I just like.

Look #1: Just One of the Guys.

Joyce Hyser channels a rockabilly Ralph Maccio as lead character, Terry.

my take:

*vest by Thakoon

*black jeans by CURRENT/ELLIOT

*shoes by Madewell

Look #2: Hot Mama

Cute from the back too!

It's like Versace meets The Flintstones!

*ALC knitted leather tunic

*leather skirt by Acne

*booties by Jeffrey Campbell

Look #3: Cute cute cute!

Sandy, played by the lovely Sherilyn Fenn (whom you may recognize from Twin Peaks. Holla!) in an adorable ensemble.

sans flannel=even better

my take-which is super literal on this one, because it's already sooo good.

finish your look off with these amazing stilettos from Camilla Skavgaard:

And remember, when you can't get what you want as yourself, try it in drag! Who knows, it worked for Terry!

Test Flight

Saw these Sally Hansen Salon Effects leopard print Nail polish strips in about 3 magazines.

They come in tons of fun colors:

I've been searching ever since but they are always out of stock at my local CVS. Well at long last I have found them, applied them and they work! Voila:

So I definitely recommend following the directions to the tee but otherwise two leopard printed thumbs way up for Sally Hansen.

Franklin's Corner

Franklin is my ten pound Boston Terrier/Chihuahua mix. He takes his fashion inspiration from both sides of his family tree. And, while Bostonians and Mexicans may be different in many, many ways, they can agree on one thing: Catholicism. So most of Franklin's taste leans to the iconic, with a smack of Day of the Dead meets St. Patty's Day. Any how, he has expressed a wish to have his own column, and after weeks of listening to him whine, I've decided to give him a go. Franklin-it's all you.

Gracias, Sam, you wont be disappointed. You ehsee, I get my fashion sense from my padre. Quite the Latin lover was he. Never afraid of any color combination. Oh the sweaters he wore!

He was ehso stylish. My Ma on the other hand, she didn't give a you know what. As long as a redsox logo was involved she would wear it.

Deese really influenced my style. Right now I'm liking bright colorblocking, ala Gucci S/S 2011:

Such as deese:

Now that you know me, I will look forward to seeing you again. In my corner. Franklin's corner.
A Manana and PEACE.

Franklin.

puddle wonderful

Ahh, this week is beautiful. I found these flowers growing in my neighborhood and loved the color story they told:

Lately I am looking to the beautiful environment I live in for outfit ideas.
