Boozy Lemon Shake Ups

We’re currently in the midst of fair and festival season. Most years around this time my husband and I make the trek to his hometown, Beardstown, IL, for the Fall Fun Festival. This year we're not going to make it, and the thing I’m most upset to miss are the amazing lemon shake ups. Luckily, it is beyond easy to make your own shake up at home, and even improve on it (yes, it's possible) by adding a little booze.

Boozy Lemon Shake Ups
(makes 1 shake up)

Ingredients:

1 lemon
¼ cup sugar
1 cup ice (crushed or cubes)
1 cup cold water
2 ounces vodka

Directions:

First thing to do is wash your lemon really well, since it's going in your drink! Cut it in half and squeeze juice into a cocktail shaker or a jar with a lid. You can strain out the seeds if you wish, but that will make it less authentic.

Add the lemon halves to the shaker along with the sugar, water, and vodka. Top with ice. Cover tightly and shake until the sugar is completely dissolved (about 20 seconds).  Pour into a glass and add more ice if desired.

You can replace the sugar with ¼ cup of simple syrup if you like, but I’m pretty sure traditional shake ups are usually made with regular old sugar, and lots of it!

I hope you enjoy these boozy shake ups. Are you guys going to any fall festivals? Let me know in the comments. Also, please don't forget to vote for us in the STLFW Blog Awards!
