Fashion Inspiration: Maleficent

Ok, so I am dorkily excited about Disney's Maleficent, the upcoming live action take on Sleeping Beauty's evil sorceress Maleficent, played by Angelina Jolie. Yes, I am a Disney buff, and the animated Sleeping Beauty was always one of my favorites. I am excited to see this new vision of the characters I grew up with, especially the evil witch queen that scared the bejesus out of me as a child.

Maleficent had amazing style, and whether or not the movie is any good, the costumes are sure to be fabulous. As a stylist and costumer myself, I am extremely jealous of Anna B. Sheppard, who designed the amazing looks Angelina wears in the film.

Other than Cruella Deville, there is probably no Disney villain with as much sartorial prowess as Maleficent. From her Isabella Blow-esque taste in headgear to her penchant for a statement collar and a good cape, this woman had style.

And yeah, so, the lady likes to put deadly curses on infants, but hey, we all have our issues. Here is my look inspired by Maleficent's exotic taste. I tried to imagine how a modern version of the style savvy sorceress might dress, and this is what I came up with. Hope you like!
