A Room For Bebe

As you all probably know by now, my husband James and I have been hard at work on a pretty room for my baby girl, who is due July 12. Well, with only a couple weeks to spare we have almost finished, and I thought I would share with you the fruit of our labor. We wanted it to be a space that was calming for all three of us, but with plenty to look at and be inspired by.

James built these shelves himself last weekend while I was at the beautiful shower thrown for me by Leah and Carolyn. They are great because they don't take up much space, and you can see all of the wonderful book covers. I was so excited to receive so many fantastic books at the shower. They have been so much fun to look through and I can't wait to read them to our new baby girl.

James and I had a great time going through tons of pictures of baby animals before we settled on these funny little guys. We had them printed on photo paper and then James painted these formerly black frames for them.

I went with a light sea foam hue for my walls and mainly stuck with pink and accents of gold and melon. It's a small room so I thought the white furniture would really open up the space and add a resting point for the eye if the other elements became too busy. You may remember this mobile from my DIY a couple months ago. I am so happy with how it turned out and love the way it reflects the morning sunlight.

We decided to name our animal friends after characters from the HBO series The Wire. From left to right you have Marlo, Wallace, Wee Bey, Omar, and Cutty.

Carolyn's fiance Matt did this wonderful illustration of our dog Franklin for a deck of playing cards he designed. I asked him if we could have a print for the baby's room and he was happy to comply.

This glider rocker is another DIY project I worked on for the room. It's super comfy, and was surprisingly easy to refurbish.

From the hand-crafted bedding we received from family and friends to the wall decals from The Lovely Wall,  the room is chock full of personal touches. I also made the eyelet curtains and painted and refurbished the lamp on her night stand. So now that we have everything put together we just need bebe. I am so excited to meet her and start the next phase of my life: motherhood.

  2. I love the shelves! What a fabulous idea. My hubbie and I DIY'd a lot for Ruby's nursery, which I think just makes the room even more special. And, as Cancer baby myself, I second what the other commenter said. :) Congrats!
