DIY Lime Coconut Sugar Scrub

This is the time of year when my skin always seems to be the driest. Coincidentally, it's also the time of year when I feel the most desperately in need of a tropical vacation. It is fortunate then that I recently discovered how easy it is to make a sugar scrub using coconut oil. The basic recipe is as simple as it sounds: just mix sugar and coconut oil together and it's done. Adding lime zest and essential oil takes the scrub to another level. You will feel like you've been transported to the tropics, and you will have the smoothest, softest skin ever.

Lime Coconut Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup coconut oil (I used Trader Joe’s organic virgin coconut oil)
1 tablespoon lime zest
1/2 teaspoon of lime essential oil (or about 50 drops)
A few drops of Vitamin E oil (optional)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients using a spoon or a hand mixer. I find the hand mixer works better in the winter when the coconut oil is firmer at room temperature.

Store your scrub in a sealed container at room temperature. I found the little glass jar pictured above in the dollar section at Target, FYI.

Because this scrub involves citrus zest and essential oil, it is best to not use it on your face, where it may irritate. Also, be forewarned that things will get very slippery if you use this scrub on your feet in the shower, so please be careful!
