BombPop's Picks for Best and Worst Dressed at the Emmys

We're at it again! Identifying the good, the bad, and the ugly at the fashion event of the year for actors on the small screen. And really, who doesn't want to act on the small screen these days? It's the new golden age of television, but is it the golden age of fashion at television awards shows? Read on to find out.

Here are our picks for best and worst dressed:

Leah: Searching for best dressed contenders at the VMAs was a bit daunting. Happily, there were many smartly dressed ladies at the Emmys last night.

Best:

I think this is the best Lizzy Caplan has ever looked on a red carpet. I love the simplicity of the black and white and the subtle cutouts on the sides that keep her Donna Karan Atelier dress from being too predictable.

I love pretty much everything about Allison Janney's Nicolas Jebran fuchsia velvet frock. I'm not normally into large bows, but this one is just right.

Amy's been killing it on the red carpet for a while now, but I cannot deny that she looks especially gorgeous in this Theia gown.

And now for some hotness:

I feel compelled to mention that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was looking pretty foxy in Salvatore Ferragamo.

Worst:

We all expect Lena Dunham to wear something odd, but this outfit (by in Giambattista Valli) is a real stumper. Giant pink ruffled skirts are great, obviously, but why would you pair one with awkwardly fitting and rumpled oxford button down? With a Peter Pan collar? Lena, I need answers!

I imagine this Gustavo Cadile dress is what Two-Face (the Batman villian) would wear if played by a woman: giant, evil collar on one side, demure sweetheart neckline on the other. Or perhaps the two necklines are meant to represent the two faces of Laura Prepon's character on OITNB?

I like a good floral print on a red carpet, but this dress (by Alice + Olivia) is not an example of one.

Sam: I agree with Leah. There were a lot of well dressed ladies at the Emmys last night, making it a tough decision. I was amazed at how much kelly green walked the red carpet. Lets just say the color didn't really work on anyone. No matter how you cut it, the hue just looks costumey. I'm talking to you, Laura Prepon.

Best:

Robin Wright channels the Thin White Duke in this gorgeous jumpsuit by Ralph Lauren.

I truly think this would have been a miss on anyone else, but Gwen Stefani pulls off this disco ball of a dress with aplomb. Stefani has really been out and about lately. Does this mean we are in for a new album? That would be bananas!

Allison Williams looks like the perfect princess she is in this Giambattista Valli gown. I'm surprised (and relieved) she didn't go green in a nod to her role in the upcoming Peter Pan musical.

Worst:

Kate Mara looks lopsided in this J. Mendel frock. Her hair and makeup don't do her any favors either. The monochrome look may work for J Lo, but Kate just looks jaundiced here. Maybe it's just the aftermath from her run-in with a subway train?

I agree with Leah on this one. Laura Prepon looks like she's auditioning for Wicked in this. Her manic expression doesn't help, either.

No, just no. American Horror Story is right. Sarah Paulson looks like space vomit in this tulle mess by Giorgio Armani.
